Ada loves lace… and clarity.

My name is Zala GOUPIL. And like so often, I spotted a need that looks simple… and is poorly met.

On the sewing side, we have patterns. For crochet, knitting, or lace, we have diagrams. But making them cleanly—without tearing your hair out or hijacking software built for everything except this? Nothing. Or almost nothing. So I decided to build AdaLovesLace.

A name paying tribute to Ada Lovelace, a programming pioneer, and a tool designed by and for creative hands.

AdaLovesLace is two apps with one common thread: practical simplicity.

  • On one side, a desktop app (Windows, Linux, macOS coming soon) to draw your diagrams—crochet, lace, etc. Not a disguised Photoshop. Just what you need to draw, save as PNG, and print. Period. The right tool, at the right time, at the right scale, for the specific job.
  • On the other, a website to host, find, and—above all—share those creations. You upload diagrams straight from your computer and they load right into the app. The .lace format I use is open and human-readable, and it invites developers to build on it. Because yes: lines of code and stitches have a lot to say to each other.

I built AdaLovesLace with an experienced crocheter so it serves both beginner hands and seasoned fiber pros. The tool adapts; it doesn’t impose. It speaks French and English. It’s simple but not simplistic, lightweight yet robust. Accessible, not dumbed down.

No fluff, no frills. Just efficiency in the service of your creativity.

Want to see what it looks like? Be a little patient—come on. Suspense…

We’re working hard behind the scenes for you—rest assured.

Okay, fine—here’s a first screenshot:

Want to give it a spin? Right this way: support me on Tipeee or try the web app.

Want to talk about it? Comments on this blog are open—just like the software’s code.

Alright, ladies—hooks at the ready! Ready? Crochet!
